Composer, Live Electronics, Sound Design

Born 1959 in Germany, BRD, Studies in piano and composition in Nuremberg,
Stuttgart, and Vienna.

Christoph Theiler has been living in Vienna since 1982, working as freelance
composer and pianist, and, since 2001, working together with the artist group
machfeld.net, with Sabine Maier, Michael Mastrototaro, Martin Pi, Simone Paischer.
Theiler's compositions include works for chamber ensemble, orchestra, electronics,
theatre and radio plays. Concerts and performances of his music have been held in
Austria, Germany, Switzerland, former Yugoslavia, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France,
South America, the USA and Russia.

Theiler won the composition prize from the city of Stuttgart in 1982, and the
composition prize Luis de Narvˆez" Granada in 1993 for his 1st and 2nd string
quartet. His 3rd string quartet from 1998/99, was premiered by the Nevsky string of
Quartet St. Petersburg. Among the other numerous composition prizes and awards
he has received, are awards from the City of Muenster, the Composers Competition
in Florida, "piano in Concert" composition competition Berlin, "Floriana", in Linz, I.C.O.N.S. in Turin, and the "Ivan Spassov Foundation" in Bulgaria.

Theiler's electronic composition NEARNESS was published on the "Sonic Circuit"
festival CD of 2001. CD production for "Ich schulde der Welt einen Toten"
(theatre play 1997) is in process. Additional recordings of his music have
been made by WDR, ORF, Deutschlandradio, radio Koper, Ljubljana-TV and BR.

Christoph Theiler's latest works are in the genre of multimedia and sound installation.
GATE II+III are works in which new forms of interactive sound design were developed.
As in the case of MEMBRAN II, for e-guitar, sax and medium wave transmitters,
M.O. - HERZ + MUND, a sound installation with 3 bass loudspeakers and very low frequency
waves, and HF 114, an electronic composition for 7 transmitters, more and more technical
aspects of electronic music, the sound design, the high-frequency engineering and
the internet are included in his artistic conception.
